Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tucker Hughes after the passing of his Parents .
Newry Pool League Offer our condolences to Tucker and his family and friends at this sad time.
TJ's A v CWC A has been re-fixtured for this Tuesday 25th of October.
What a mouth watering clash this promises to be. At long last there's a team who, on paper could challenge TJ's for the trophies that have all been swallowed up by the latter for the past 2 seasons.
CWC A will have quietly set their sights on winning the league. But the minimum requirement is a Cup. The Vegas or the Cunningham Cup is the least that will be expected by the Bravelle outfit. Anything less will be seen as a failure.
Declan McConville liked to switch players about when it came to the big games when he captained TJ's A to the Double Quadruple. New captain Laurence McAlinden has so far been fairly consistent - keeping with the same players.
Pat Brady has been ruthless so far. Bad performance and you're gone. The CWC captain has kept his main players pretty much the same so we could have a go trying to match up the teams.
Of course one or both captains may switch their team about completely. TJ's are the more likely to move players especially after their dissapointing draw against Hustlers in their last league game. So far CWC have won all 3 of their league matches.
There aren't many certainties but Kieran McMahon playing 1st for CWC is as certain as rain in an Irish summer. He will be lining up against his old team mates and very possibly his old pal and employee at CWC - Laurence McAlinden. Larry has played 1st in 2 out of 3 of TJ's league games - winning 2/3. Larry will be picking the team so does he bite the bullet or dodge it? The ginger nugget McMahon played 4th in the opening match but back to 1st in the next 2 and no doubt at all he will play 1st in this match. If Jack Courtney plays then he may be up 1st for TJ's but most likely it's going to be L. McAlinden v K. McMahon
Going by all the team selections so far the next match-up is a cert. It's Raymie McKenna v Cathal Phelan. Ex-corrinshego team mates both players look set for a showdown. Raymie has played all 3 games in 2nd place while Cathal has played 1st once and 2nd twice. McKenna and Phelan have both won all 3 of their games so this should be a cracking frame.
Paul 'Bunty' O'Callaghan and Harvey Lavelle are likely to occupy 3rd and 4th place for CWC. Most likely in that order but they could easily switch. Manny Byrne is usually a stick on for 4th although he has been moved about by McAlinden a lot so far this season. Byrne could play 3rd, 4th or 5th but 4th is most likely. That would mean Declan McMahon will slot in at 3rd spot and potentially play 'Bunty' O'Callaghan. With Byrne facing old foe Harvey Lavelle 4th.
5th spot for both teams could be interesting. Tristan Byrne and Pat Brady would be potentially on the cards in game 6 as Brady has virtually claimed that spot as his own. Tristan plays 6th more often than not so quite possibly TJ's captain McAlinden will switch Byrne to 5th.
Eugene McDermott didn't play in the opening game for TJ's but has featured in the last 2 winning both his frames. McDermott is likely to be in a battle with Stevie Noade to face Pat Brady in at number 6.
Paddy Tavey will almost certainly be sent in at no.5 for CWC. Shane Phelan or Niall McVerry could play there but Paddy Tavey v Tristan Byrne looks a good bet for no.5.
Shane Phelan's place in the team is in jeopardy after losing his last two. Niall McVerry or Martin McClelland could both come back into the CWC team. If Tucker Hughes makes himself available he will very probably play 8th with Shane Phelan waiting on the nod and Seamus McGeoghegan playing 9th.
Niall McVerry would be favourite to play 7th for CWC.
Declan McConville has played last in all 3 TJ's A games so far. So will he play 8th or 9th? Stevie Teggart or Paul Morgan will come into the side. Possibly both. If Jack Courtney is available he will definitely play.
Stevie Noade is a likely starter at 7th. Sub in TJ's last game - Paul Morgan could come in at 8 with former captain Declan McConville on 9th.Possible line-ups
1. Laurence McAlinden v Kieran McMahon
2. Raymie McKenna v Cathal Phelan
3. Declan McMahon v Paul O'Callaghan
4. Manny Byrne v Harvey Lavelle
5. Tristan Byrne v Paddy Tavey
6. Eugene McDermott v Pat Brady
7. Stevie Noade/Jack Courtney v Niall McVerry
8. Paul Morgan v Tucker Hughes/Shane Phelan
9 Declan McConville v Seamus McGeoghegan.
Who isn't looking forward to this cracker when you see teams like that squaring up to each other?
