Sunday 15th January Regal Pool Hall Portadown will host Down trials for the pool teams competing in the all-Irelands in Killarney.
Everyone in the Newry Pool is invited to come along to the trials. Registration is 10am and the games begin at 11am.
Manny Byrne will be there while Tristan Byrne topped the stats last year. Noel Meara and Tony Greenan from the Hilltown Pool League will be in attendance.
Players like Paddy Tavey, Declan McConville, Stephen Teggart, Harvey Lavelle, Pat Brady and Sean Hoey are all local players who have played for their County and most have competed in the All-Irelands before with Down, Armagh Louth and Monaghan. Cullyhanna player Sean Hoey won the singles title back in 2012.
Jack Courtney teamed up with Declan McConville and Laurence McAlinden to play for Armagh at the Inter County Championships at the weekend.
Stevie Teggart was back in action for Armagh B team. He had Newry Individuals champion Seamus McVerry along with Niall McVerry, Harvey Lavelle and Jamie Lavelle in his team.
Manny Byrne had a brilliant day getting to the final of the singles only to lose out to professional player Ronan McCarthy.
Newry Pool league has an abundance of talent and these trials in Regal Portadown are an excellent opportunity to get in the Down teams that will compete in Killarney Co. Kerry.
This could be the year players like Kieran Hanna, Niall O'Hare, Jason Lennon, Karl McGuinness, Joe Poucher or Gavin McNally step up and make one of the teams. Kieran McMahon would be made for this if he could get talked into going. This is open to any player.
Get yourselves down to Portadown this Sunday 15th 10am.
