Newry Pool league Would Like To take This Opportunity To Thank All Teams That Supported Them This Season And Wish Them A Very Happy New Year For 2018.
Division 1 top scoring charts is dominated by Nan's Rams and St. Monnina. Here is the best and the best of the rest. Mal Maguire got most of the headlines as he almost took his winning run to Christmas. Maguire won 7 league games in a row before finally tasting defeat. He won his last 2 games to finish with 9 wins from 10 games. The Nan's Rams hero is an inspirational figure and will be hoping he can lead his table topping Nan's to the Division 1 league title. Pat McClenaghan also won 9 out of his 10 league games. McClenaghan also of Nan's succumbed to defeat against St. Monnina 5 games in but the brilliant potter got straight back to winning ways to claim wins in the next 5. Leigh McAlinden incredibly has an identical record to Nan's team mate Pat McClenaghan. McAlinden tasted his 1st defeat against St. Monnina and he also went on to win his remaining league games to finish with a Christmas Cracking 9 wins from 10 games.
Paddy Hughes is the star of the St. Monnina title challenge. He equalled Mal Maguires consecutive frame winning run of 7 with a victory against Bosco. His 8 wins out of 10 puts him right up there with the Elite in Division 1. John Daly of Johnny Murphy's could possibly have 8 wins from 9 games. He missed the 5th league game against Sheepbridge then won his next 4 before losing his last game against Boyds. The problem is the 2nd league game of the season which was also against Boyds - we in the blog have no score card from that game. If anyone can remember that far back to let us know if Daly won and who he beat we will amend the scoring records. As it stands though Daly has definitely got a minimum of 7 wins from 8 games which is very impressive indeed.
Martin Conroy with 7 wins from 8 is top drawer stuff from the experienced star man from McGuigan's B. Conroy missed the 1st league game of the season before hitting a record equalling 7 game winning run before they received their bye courtesy of Foresters B and then he was beaten - possibly for the 1st time in the final game before the break. Paddy McCann won 5 games in a row mid-season en-route to his 7 wins from 9 games to make our top scoring charts. He missed the 4th game of the league campaign and agonisingly lost his last game before the break. An early season defeat v McGuigan's the only other blemish on a superb season so far. Stephen Cunningham has impressed a lot this term. 7 wins from 9 games is just like team mate Paddy McCann. He also lost his last league game before the break in an uncanny similarity to McCann.
Darren Devlin is another top player on an impressive 7 wins from 9. He won his 1st 4 league games before losing 2 out of his next 3. The bye against Forester's B was followed with 2 wins before the festive break. Ritchie Fletcher and Kevin McMahon could possibly be sitting on 7 wins out 9 games. Because of the 2nd league mentioned earlier in the blog against Johnny Murphy's which we have no result card then both players are on 6 wins out of 8. The Foresters B game wasn't played so that was a bye. Two defeats for both players still has them well placed in our scoring charts.
The best of the rest and enjoying good season's are Forester's A player John Allen who won 6 from his 1st 7 league games before he hit a rough patch. Team mate Hugh McGrath is having a good season. They need more effort from their team mates if the want to push Forester's up the table. Alex Carlon is leading the Trainor's A fight. The Canal Street side need more players like him.
Niall Rice and Gary Cowan can be proud of their efforts for TJ''s B. Are they the only 2 quality players in that squad? I doubt it but they're producing the goods. Pat Quinn is rolling back the years. Him and John Daly are all that stand between Johnny Murphy's and a relegation fight. Robert Devlin hasn't played as many as his Bosco team mates but they need to drag him to the games if they have to because he is a star ready to shine. Patrick Caldwell is having a super season for Windmill Bar. It's a crying shame he got axed by the Bears because he would be a good help in the Premier for them. Mark Pentony and Andrew Chan are the pick of the Nan's Rams players that are sitting pretty at the top of Division 1.
Happy New Year to all our members. Stay safe and see you all in the new year. Look out for the preview of ALL the individuals matches coming soon.
