TJ's A used to dominate proceedings but this year the former double quadruple winners finally got a run for their money. CWC captain Pat Brady masterminded the TJ's downfall and he will fittingly make 4 trips to the podium to collect winner trophies.
CWC A will collect the Premier Division league title for the 1st time in their history. They managed to end TJ A's 4 year reign as title holders after a brilliant season . The decisive game was the night they thrashed TJ's 5-1 in CWC. CWC A also went on to capture the prestigious Cunningham Cup just for good measure.
CWC B inspired by the senastional Tommy Rooney will also bring a trophy home as they won the Division 2 Cup.
TJ's usually dominate proceedings but this year they will have to settle for just the 2 trophies. Runner-up in the league will bring in a few quid for their end of season bash but it was the Premier Division Cup and the Vegas cup that will take pride of place behind Jim McQuillan's TJ's Bar.
Ballyholland shocked Division 1 by going on a remarkable unbeaten run in the 2nd half of the season to pick up the league title with a game to spare. In the old Division 4 a few years back they romped to the title going the whole league campaign unbeaten. These lads are resolute and tough as teak. Ballyholland dedicated their win to their talisman Marty O'Hare who sadly past away after a short illness. RIP Marty.
The league also lost a big Character in Marty McCone. Marty played right up until Christmas with his Trainor's team. Marty loved his pool as well as having a good laugh and he will be sadly missed. RIP Martin.
Trainor's Bar were runner-up in Division 1 and although they were expected to win the league, they did bring home to Camlough the Division 1 Cup when they beat Nan's Rams 5-4 in a cracking final.
St.Monnina were surprise winners of the Division 2 league title. They held off a number of strong challenges but the others just kept throwing points away and Boyds came from way back to nab the runner-up spot. Boyds will collect 2 runner-up cheques after CWC B defeated them in the Division 2 Cup final.
Hustlers battled their way to 2 Cup finals but came up short in both. CWC beat them in the Cunningham Cup and TJ's A in the Vegas. It was a good season for the Bellinis based side as they finished 3rd in the Premier Division as well.
Orchard bar got tanked by TJ's A in the Premier Division Cup final but a cheque towards a few beverages should ease the pain.
There's life in the old dogs yet as John Magee and Tommy O'Hanlon battled their way to the Pairs Final. Sadly for the McGuigan's duo they came up against the classy Pat Brady and Harvey Lavelle. Brady and Lavelle cruised to the 2nd Pairs title in 2 years. Can anyone beat the 'Bravelle' double act?
Pat Brady will share the Pairs title with Harvey Lavelle and will do the same with in Individuals Trophy.
Kieran McMahon and Pat Brady are 2 of the best players in the Newry Pool League and fittingly they will share the 2016/17 Individuals Trophy.
Well done to all the teams picking up prizes. Let's all have a great night's craic and chat about how good we used to be lol.
Good luck to Manny and Tristan Byrne who are in Blackpool competing in the World Pool Championships. Manny was joint top of the scoring averages and his N.Ireland side are in with a great chance of making it through to the knockout stages.
The lads are joint 2nd but have played more games.
