CWC, Ballyholland and St. Moninna all look set to win their respective Division's with games running out of the other contenders.
CWC slipped up against McGuigan's A to give TJ's A a glimmer of hope. CWC drew 4-4, needing a Cathal Phelan final frame win to nick a draw. That gives them a 2 point cushion with only 2 games to go. 3 more CWC points will guarantee their 1st ever top tier league title and end TJ's A 4 years of dominance. TJ's actually have a better frame difference but it's points on the board that counts and a win and a draw is all CWC A need to be champions.
Ballyholland Harps are incredibly only 1 win away from a place in the Premier Division. They are 3 points ahead of 3rd placed Trainor's with both teams having only 2 games to play.
The biggest game of Thursday night's round of fixtures saw Nan's slaughter Trainor's 7-1. Trainors' fall from grace has been dramatic and after a season where they were rarely out of the top 2 they now look set to miss out on a place in the promised land. Tommy Mooney was pure awful against Barney Preece and Nan's exploited a severe weakness in the Trainor's armoury. Trainor's had lost their bottle.
Nan's are 1 point ahead of Trainor's and 3 behind table toppers Ballyholland. Nan's face Ballyholland in the final round of fixtures and with Ballyholland possibly already promoted it could be one massive promotion party!
Dan's are a point further behind Trainor's in 4th and 4 points off Ballyholland with just 2 games to go.
Saint Moninna are 1 win away from promotion to Division 1 after their 6-2 demolition of Madden's Bar. They have a 2 point lead over CWC B who also had a 6-2 win and both teams only have 2 games league games left to play.
Armagh/Down slipped up against Sheepbridge and are 3 points off top spot and needing favours from other teams if they're to get promoted.
Boyds destroyed TJ's C 8-0 and moved into joint 3rd with Armagh/Down. Boyds never looked promotion candidates this season but their recent good form along with the top teams dropping points has now put them in with a chance of promotion.
Millvale losing to Forresters 6-2 has left them 4 points off top spot. They won't win the league and promotion now looks beyond them after sitting in the top 2 or 3 nearly all season. Top players such as Ryan Diamond and Killian McDonald will be very much in demand if Millvale miss out on promotion. The individuals draw is on Destination Newry now and Seamus McVerry won't be the 1st player this century to win back to back titles after Ritchie Taylor sent him packing
Defending champion Seamus McVerry has crashed out of the Destination Newry sponsored 2017 Pool individuals. Richie Taylor from TJ's Tigers came through 2-1 in a rearranged match played on Wednesday night. Things don't get any easier for Taylor as he now faces former overall winner Stevie Teggart.Paddy Tavey dumped his CWC A team mate Paddy Clarke out in one of the ties of the round. In a close, high quality game Tavey progressed 2-1. His prize for that big win is a shot at the 3/1 favourite Kieran McMahon. Kieran McMahon had his 2nd 2-1 win of the tournament to progress.4/1 2nd favourite Manny Byrne had earlier beaten Raymond McKenna to book his place in the last 32. Byrne got a tricky opponent in Lee Irvine in the next round. Last year's Beaten finalist Jack Courtney had a very comfortable night against Whitecross hotshot James Toner. Courtney was never troubled in a 2-0 win. Courtney will need to beat Thomas 'Tucker' Hughes if in the last 32 if he's going to win this much coveted individuals trophy.
Tristan Byrne and Shane Phelan will renew their rivalry when they clash in the last 32. Both players sailed through their round 2 games 2-0.
The last 2 pairings out of the hat saw great friends and team mates Harvey Lavelle and Pat Brady drew together. Harvey Lavelle had a bye in the previous round while Pat Brady eased home 2-0. What a game this is going to be.
