What a treat we are in for this season. TJ's A might finally have some competition with the emergence of a new look CWC Dreamteam bursting with experience and talent. If CWC can turn the Premier Division into 2 horse race then that will be great for the Newry Pool League.
If the Premier Division is going to be a 2 horse race then Division 1 is going to be a stock car race. Last season Bears were pipped at the post by TJ's D in a thrilling title battle but this season is going to be a demolition derby. With so much quality in Division 1 it is going to be carnage!
Dan's C dropping through the Premier trap door have strengthened big time and have individuals winner Seamus McVerry still very much the focal point of their team.
Trainors Bar in Camlough cantered through Division 2 in 2nd gear. They dumped Premier side Whitecross out of the Vegas Cup and took a 4-0 lead against quadruple winners TJ's A only to let it slip. Trainors have added the 2 Bradley's and this side is going to be right up there.
Windmill Bar may have difficulty completing they're Premier Division fixtures but they're right at home in Division 1. They have 1 of the best talents in the Division with Aaron O'Callaghan inspiring a strong squad these lads will be contenders for sure.
Nan's had a good season last time out and were in with a shout of the title but just ran out of steam in the final furlong. They'll be up there again this season.
Ballyholland were the last team in all 3 Divisions to lose their 100% record last season but they didn't have the quality to sustain a title challenging campaign. They may not win the league but the points they take off the contenders will have a huge bearing on who does.
A Conor Dullaghan inspired Granvue Hotel were right in the mix up until the last few matches. It's hard to imagine they'll win Division 1 but yet again they'll take points off the contenders and not many teams will take 2pts back from Omeath.
Johnny Murphys look a good steady mid-table team. They got off to a good start last season and to stay away from the relegation zone they'll be looking another good start.
TJ's B look weaker than last year but should still be able to hold their own in Division 1.
McGuigan's B would be ok any other season but this Division is very strong this year so it could be a difficult campaign for the Monaghan Street side.
Bosco got off to a nightmare start last season and looked condemned to Division 2. They rallied well in the 2nd half of the season to stay up but if they start poorly again then there will be no escape this time around.
Indo should be starting to prepare for life in Division 2. The days of Indo being a top side are long since gone and this team are in for a battle Royal to pick up points in Division 1. Easily favourite's for the drop Indo are in for a long, hard season.
The fixture list looks kind for Trainor's Bar as they aim for 2 promotions in 2 seasons. They look odds on for maximum points until week 6 where they meet Windmill. That game will be in Camlough so Trainor's could open up a lead at the top early on. The big derby game with Dan's will be the next match for Trainor's as they travel to the model village week 7.
Indo, Granvue and TJ's B are Trainor's opening 3 fixtures.
Dan's travel to Windmill in the 2nd round of fixtures. What a game this promises to be. This early clash of the titans will be crucial as nobody will want to lose ground on Trainor's. Dan's have their bye in round 3 so the prospect of being 4pts behind the leaders is a daunting one.
Windmill travel up the hill to take on Ballyholland (week 4) the round after Dan's in another tricky game. Trainors is the big 1 in week 6. Week 9 Windmill have their bye and the final 2 games of the season are tough. They will host Nan's Rams and travel down to a tricky looking tie in Bosco.
If Indo can avoid early relegation they won't be too delighted to see their final 2 league games will both be away from home. Away to TJ's B could be massive and a trip over to Nan's Rams should surely seal their feat.
Get ready for some fireworks in this Division. Any one of 5 or 6 could win this league. This will be cut throat pool and dropping points could could be difficult to claw back with so many big teams certain to be challenging.
I can't wait to see this Division going toe to toe.
Look out for a run down of Division 2 coming soon!
