CWC just had to match or better Dan's C result to be champions. The leaders had a huge Derby game against a very experienced & strong TJ's team. CWC raced into a 2 frame lead thanks to Paul McKay & Paul Murphy wins over Diddles McArdle & Johnny McMurray.
That was 2 of TJ's C's better players out of the way and surely now CWC would storm to the title. But the away side don't do sentiment and the experienced Tony McGivern pulled one back TJs when he beat Tommy Rooney.
PJ Gilmore who has been nothing short of brilliant all season but Paul Taylor is a super potter & he made no mistake to level up at 2-2.
CWC captain Paul Kelland had the opportunity to stem the tide but when Shaun McDonald won a tight game CWC heads started to drop & TJ's C sensed fear.
The pressure was really on now & Cathal Murphy who had just come back to form after a patchy run couldn't keep his good run going and Liam Downey ensured CWC wouldn't be taking maximum points & TJ's lead 4-2.
It was definitely squeaky bum time now and the reliable Pat Hughes needed to win or it was lights out. But Damien Woods punished the mistakes & CWC's title dreams now slipping away fast.
John McClorey has been been a superb anchor man all season but with nothing to play for it was Harry Brady who rubbed salt in the wounds for TJ's C and seal a memorable win for the away side and break the hearts of CWC.
With their title hanging by a thread CWC needed a huge favour from Johnny Murphys Bar who were playing Dan's C. A point for Dan's would be enough for a play-off or 2pts to take the title.
Dan's hosted the biggest game of their season. After being miles behind at Christmas they only needed one more win to be crowned Div 1 Champions.
The brilliant James O'Hagan got Dan's C off to a flying start beating the very good Emmett Fearon with some superb potting.
Mark McGurk is a fantastic potter but the tactics of Declan Brady levelled up the scores at 1-1.
Jimmy McVerry had to use all his experience to resore the Bessbrook sides lead when he beat Kevin Crilly for 2-1.
In a typical South Armagh Derby Murphys were not goin to lie down easy and the superb Martin White squared up the match at the half way stage for 2-2 when he beat Terry Phoenix.
Niall McVerry has played his best pool of the season during the title run in and he restored Dan's lead when he saw off the plucky Paul McArdle. 3-2.
Seamus Tumilty has been vital part of Dan's improved performances and it was he who made it 4-2 and the dream of winning the title was still on.
Conor McQuid has had a mixed season for Johnny Murphy's but he made sure that Dan's would have to fight to the wire to win the match when he got the scalp of Seamus McVerry.
All eyes on Barry Doyle. Little could he have known but he was about to play possibly the biggest frame of pool of his career so far. Sheila Johnson couldn't rain on the Dan's parade and Doyle saw it through in a scrappy game and Dan's C pulled off the improbable of sensationally and incredibly winning the Division 1 league title.
Elsewhere Millvale fell through the Division 1 trapdoor to join McSwiggans A in div 2 next year despite a very credible draw against Bellinis Bar.
Trainor's Bar on Canal Street made no mistake by claiming both points off bottom team McSwiggans A to ensure they couldn't be caught by Millvale and stayed up by 3pts. Check out the league table and the rest of the results online now.
