We said at the weekend we would give our prediction for the winner of the most coveted prize in local pool. The Destination Newry sponsored Newry Individuals comes to its climax tonight as 16 of the best Cueists go head to head. Players like Laurence McAlinden, Paddy Tavey, Tristan Byrne, Cathal Phelan, Raymie McKenna, Cathal McCoy, Gavin McNally, Paddy Clarke and Michael Feenan have all drifted by the way side. Only the best now remain. Fasten your seat belts this is going to be one incredible night of action packed pool.
Micky Cunningham v Adrian Annett
Manny Byrne v David Cromie
Ralph Crummy v Kieran McMahon
Paddy O'Callaghan v Shane Phelan
Jason Lennon v Tommy Mooney
Declan McMahon v Emmett Fearon
Gavin Malone v Richie Taylor
Jack Courtney v Pat Brady
Our 1/4 predictions were:
1) Micky Cunningham v Manny Byrne
2) Kieran McMahon v Shane Phelan
3) Jason Lennon v Declan McMahon
4) Richie Taylor v Pat Brady
Predicted semi-final line-up:
1) Manny Byrne v Kieran McMahon
2) Declan McMahon v Pat Brady
Manny Byrne v Pat Brady
For any neutral that would be the dream final. Two of the best exponents of the game in the Newry and District Pool league clashing for the Singles Crown!
Over the course of the season Pat Brady has probably been the more consistent. Manny Byrne dishes for fun when on form.
If Manny Byrne can get to the final I think the best of 7 frames will suit far better than the shorter races.
Pat Brady lost out in the final of the Louth individuals 7-4 earlier in the week. Will that be on his mind if he gets to the Newry final?
Manny Byrne is the real deal. He is out to 7/2 with the local bookie and we reckon he's the man to beat.
Our tip for OVERALL WINNER:
Good luck to all the contenders tonight. Hopefully everyone plays their best pool and above all - enjoy the night.
Let it be said that here on the blog we like to entertain you boys so lets head on down to TJs tonite and LETS PLAY POOL
