Manny's exit leaves TJ's team mate Kieran McMahon as clear favourite and he had a comfortable 2-0 win over tricky opponent Lee Irvine with the latter on his home table in the Orchard Bar.
Last years beaten finalist Harvey Lavelle was made to fight all the way by Christopher Smith of Gravnvue hotel. Harvey needed all his experience to edge through 2-1.
TJ's A had other casualties apart from Manny Byrne. Tristan Byrne bowed out 2-1 at the hands of super potter Pat Byrne. Declan McConville fell at the first hurdle to Dee Kearney also 2-1.
Declan Brennan of TJ's A scraped through against the experienced Eddie Heaney of div 1 Bears.
Laurance McAlinden also had a narrow 2-1 win. Declan McMahon had a close fought 2-1 win over Boyds player Kris Fletcher.
One of the ties of the round saw Jack Courtney of TJ's A beat Diddles McArdle 2-1. It was a cracking match out in Carrickcruppen and Jack got a big scare from the talented McArdle.
McGuigans and league stalwarts Kevin & John Magee both exited to surprise 1st round defeats and were joined by Brendan Healy & Joey Magill who were fancied for wins.
League secretary Micky Cunningham had a good win against Martin Reavey with Martin having a good season for div 3 McSwiggans B. Reaveys team mate Mo Ruddy faired better to make the 2nd round.
Other fancied players to get through were Paddy Clarke of Carrickcruppen, Cathal Phelan & Michael Feenen of Whitecross, Liam Bradley of McGuigans C, Stevie Taggart, Paddy Tavey and Darren Devlin.
