Pat Brady is ruling the CWC A roost off the table and he is ruling the Premier Division roost on the baize. The standard is so high that not one player has a 100% win record playing 7 or more games.
Two players lead the way with Pat Brady winning 9 of his 10 league games and Martin O'Callaghan winning 8 of his 9. O'Callaghan never got to play against bottom of the table Killeavy as they had pulled out of the league by that stage.
Brady was on course for a clean sweep until a surprise defeat against Sheepbridge. Strangely enough it was the First league game' Brady moved himself from 6th to 3rd on his team sheet. Ciaran Morgan junior is no heavy weight in the Newry Pool league but he has held his own. He inflicted Brady's only loss. Had Brady played 6th he would have played Bernie Keenan who finished with a record of 2 defeats from 2 games.
Brady is one of the most respected pool players on the Newry Curcuit and is the current Pairs champion. His tactical knowledge is among the best and he is a percentage player. Doesn't take many risks but still deadly when the chance arises.
Martin O'Callaghan has in no small part helped Whitecross not only away from the relegation zone but right up there fighting it out for 2nd place.
O'Callaghan lost his only league game in the opening match in Bears against Adrian 'Oz' Holman. Whitecross' top marksman then won his next 7 league games to hold the longest winning league run in the top flight.
O'Callaghan likes to play attacking pool. He will go for the game as soon as there is a finish on and won't get bogged down in a tactical game for too long.
18 Points CWC A have a 3 point lead at the top of the Vegas Casino sponsered Newry Pool league Premier Division. Unbeaten so far, they have only dropped 2 points. TJ's A needed the final 2 frames to salvage a draw while Whitecross took the final frame to split the points.
Captain Pat Brady has a fantastic 9 wins from 10 and he's getting plenty of help from his star studded squad.
Kieran McMahon has 8 wins from 10 games which is title winning pool.
Paddy Clarke was a massive signing. He missed the 1st 3 games before the urge to topple rivals TJ's A off their perch became too much for him. His 6 wins puts him next top scorer for CWC with his only defeat coming in Whitecross.
Paul 'Bunty' O'Callaghan won his First 5 league games in a blistering start which included a break finish in the opening match. Bunty was flying but then CWC got their bye and he lost 2 in a row then was dropped for 2 matches. O'Callaghan came back in their final game with a win and a total of 6 league victories.
Harvey Lavelle also won 6 and was sub once losing 3 league games.
Cathal Phelan has an identical record of 6 wins, 3 defeats and sub once. These are the guys doing the damage. These are Pat Brady's tried and trusted.
The others are all fighting it out for 2 maybe 3 places.
Martin McClelland is staking a claim. He has won the final 3 league games and he started it with a break finish against McGuigan's. They are his only league wins. McClelland has only 1 league defeat and that was against Hustlers.
Paddy Tavey also only has 3 wins but has lost 4.
Shane Phelan has won 2 and lost 3.
Apart from Tavey these are decent win ratio's but getting a run in this team is not easy.
Stephen Rooney was snapped up in the transfer market and he has 2 wins from 2 games.
Seamus McGeoghegan has only played 1 game and lost.
2 players who had signed but are not with CWC any more are Thomas Hughes who won 2 from his 3 played.
Niall McVerry has signed for Hustlers and left with 3 wins and 2 defeats.
CWC A roll on and their rivals cannot afford any more slip ups. Pat Brady is ruthless at the helm and despite being dumped from the Vegas Cup 5-4 by TJ's A they are still favourites to end TJ's Premier Division domination.
15 Points TJ's A suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of Bears in their 4th league game which has rocked their title ambitions. CWC drew with TJ's and they needed a final frame win to get a draw with Whitecross. TJ's A trail CWC by 3pts.
Laurence McAlinden leads the way yet again for TJ's A. McAlinden has a brilliant record of 7 league wins from 8. TJ's A didn't get to play Killeavy so they only had 9 league matches.
Larry's only defeat came against Whitecross in that drawn game.
Raymond McKenna won his First 4 league games and finished with 7 wins and 2 league defeats which is super shooting.
Manny Byrne has 6 wins and 2 defeats and he missed the Whitecross game.
Tristan Byrne won 6 but lost 3 which is bordering on disappointing for a team that are defending quadruple winners.
Declan McMahon missed 3 games but still won 4 and lost 2.
Stevie Noade has won 4 and lost 3 which out of the 7 he played.
Stevie Teggart won 3 out of the 4 he's played which is a bit more like it.
Eugene McDermott has a decent record of 3 wins from 4 but has spent too many games as sub.
Jack Courtney went and got married and missed a couple of games but the honeymoon is long over. 3 defeats and only 4 wins has seen TJ's divorce players for less.
Declan McConville has come in for some stick during the season and here's some stats to make him wince. McConville lost his 1st 5 league games before finally ending his drought against Carrickcruppen. He followed that by losing to Orchard Bar then finishing with 2 more wins. The former TJ's A captain won 3 and lost 6. That is disgraceful. Players in Indo A that have zero points would chase a player with that record. Unless McConville has turned pro at the golf he needs to do a bit on the practice table.
TJ's A need to hit the ground running in the 2nd half of the season. Too many players are missing too many games and players just aren't performing. TJ's are probably going to have to beat CWC A to make this a 2 horse race again.
14 Points Hustlers have won 6, drew 2 and lost 2. They are only a point off TJ's and 4 behind CWC. Hustlers drew with TJ's A before CWC hit them 6-2. Their only other defeat was against Whitecross.
Damien 'Diddles' McArdle is the top potter in Bellinis with 6 wins from 9 games. Hustlers didn't play Killeavy.
McArdle won his last 4 games after a dodgy middle part were he lost 3 in a row.
Cathal McCoy will have been glad to see the Christmas break. He lost his last 2 and missed the game before that. He still finished with a respectable 5 wins and just the 2 defeats.
Micky Cunningham started well with 3 wins but had to wait till the penultimate game before the break to hit 4. He still finished with only 3 defeats which is a good ratio from the pool boss.
Kevin Magee couldn't buy a win at the start but hit a sparkling run of 4 wins on the spin before the break.
Bernie Magee missed half the games but won 4 from his last 5 to finish with 4 wins and 2 defeats.
Shane McAllister won his 1st 3 before losing 4 in a row and didn't play in the last 2.
Billy O'Neill and Barry Murphy both won 3 and lost 3.
Damien Kearney won 3 and lost 2.
Ciaran O'Neill won 3 and lost 6 which is quite atrocious indeed.
John Little picked up his only win in the final match before the break.
Hustlers have signed sharp shooter Niall McVerry from CWC and he is a great signing. He can push Hustlers on and maybe take 2nd spot if TJ's slip up.
12 Points Whitecross have been a surprise package this year so far. They've won 5, lost 2 and drew 2. Their 2 draws were against CWC then TJ's A. Losing to Bears in the opening game and then McGuigan's A in the final game before the break.
Martin O'Callaghan with his 7 wins from 8 has inspired Whitecross up the league table.
Noel Donaldson has been a sensation since he arrived from South Armagh pool. He won 6 games in a row sandwiched between was the 2pts from Killeavy's withdrawal. With only 2 defeats his record is fantastic. Incredibly James Toner,
Michael Feenan, Gareth McCann, Joseph McTaggart and Mickey O'Hanlon all have 4 league wins for Whitecross. With Michael Feenan losing 5 and the rest 4. It's a good job O'Callaghan is winning because these are mid-table stats.
Captain Gavin Malone has 2 wins and 2 defeats. Hardly inspiring from the Captain.
Brian O'Neill won just 1 game and lost 6 which is relegation pool.
Barry Shields played 3 league games and lost all 3 so the Whitecross lads will be hoping he's lost his cue for January.
If Martin O'Callaghan hits a losing streak Whitecross will plummet down the table but so far so good for the South Armagh side.
11 Points Bears are having a cracking season and occupied 3rd place for a while.
5 wins and 1 draw with 4 defeats is a good 1st half for them. Beating TJ's A being the obvious highlight. Anthony Morgan is carrying the fight like no other in his Bears side. He missed the 1st 3 games then hit 6 wins in a row and has yet to be beaten. Bears didn't play Killeavy so he may well have got 7 wins. Tremendous pool by Morgan and he's been a super signing since he left Hustlers.
Seamus Keenan with 5 wins and 4 defeats is going well.
Ralph Crummy, Adrian Holman and Eddie Heaney have 4 wins each. Eddie winning his 4 all in a row mid-seaon. Crummy lost 3, Holman 4 and Eddie just twice.
Sean McKevitt is finding it a bit tougher with 3 wins and 5 defeats.
Neill 'the baby faced assassin' is shooting off target with 3 wins and 3 defeats.
Paul Murphy is having a nightmare with 2 wins and 5 defeats. That's atrocious.
Got love Garry Powell's record though. Lose, win, lose, win, lose. Then a bit more consistency losing 3 on the trot before winning then losing.
Bears are going well. If they can finish top 4 what season that would be for the newly promoted Windmill Bar based side.
10 Points Orchard Bar have 4 wins and 2 draws with 4 losses.
Orchard beat TJ's Tigers then Whitecross early in the season and sat 3rd but after their bye they slowly drifted down the table. Losing to both TJ's A and then CWC in their final game before the break.
Orchard kingpins Karl McGuinness and Joe Poucher are their joint top scorers with 6 wins. Poucher played a game less. Orchard were the last team to play Killeavy before they folded and stuffed them 6-2 with Karl and Joe both Winning. McGuinness has beaten Kieran McMahon among his 6 and has 4 defeats.
Poucher has only lost 3 games. That's top pool from these men.
Brendy Devlin has 5 wins and 4 defeats which is pretty good.
Mervyn Kernaghan, Charlie Broughton and Diamuird Lonergan all have 4 wins. All suffering 4 defeats from the 8 they've played.
PJ McDaniel has won 3 and lost 4.
Lee Irvine has the an identical record winning 3 and losing 4.
Richie Crawford has won 2 and lost 3.
David Cromie started playing well into the season and won 2 out of 5.
Orchard Bar can definitely improve if they can get a few more players to up their win percentages. Karl McGuinness and Joe Poucher are left with sore backs carrying the team every year.
9 Points TJ's Tigers have won 4 of their 10 with 1 draw. The Tigers had a tough birth into the Premier Division getting beat by TJ's A then hammered by Orchard 7-1. After beating Sheepbridge they suffered their 3rd defeat in 4 games in Whitecross then got hammered 7-1 by CWC. They've steadied the ship lately and are improving.
Gavin McNally has had an excellent start winning 6 and losing 3 with no Killeavy to play.
Matty Cartmill came out of the traps flying winning his 1st 4 games but only 1 more win leaves him on 5 with 4 losses.
Adrian Annett has 4 wins and 5 defeats which is mid-table pool.
Sean Rice has 4 wins and 4 defeats which is identical to Richie Taylor's record. Not too bad when you break even.
Jason Lennon has found it tough going winning just 3 and losing 6. He should be dissapointed with those stats.
Davy Hanna has 3 wins and lost 4 and been sub twice so not too bad for the tactician.
Niall O'Hare comes with a big reputation but he needs to realise he's not in Blackpool. 3 wins and 4 defeats is poor for a potter of his standard.
Nicky Irwin has played very little with 2 wins from 4 not a bad return.
TJ's Tigers have a very talented but small squad. They will only get better as most of them have never played in the Premier Division before. Expecting this exciting team to push up the table in 2017.
8 Points Carrickcruppen have 3 wins and 2 draws to show from their 10 games. A 7-1 mauling from TJ's Tigers was a huge setback then then TJ's A destroyed them 7-1 2 weeks later. Further defeats by Hustlers and Whitecross has kept Carrickcruppen in the bottom half.
New signing Kieran Hanna is the big fish in the wee pond winning 7 out of his 10 games. He's won his last 4 and can look forward to 2017 with some excitement.
Jamie Lavelle has had an excellent 1st half of the season winning 6 and losing 4. Carrickcruppen played Killeavy to give them their full 10 games.
Ciaran Hanna jnr won his opening 5 league games in a trail blazing start but the wins dried up picking up just 1 more victory before the break. Ciaran only picked up 3 defeats as he missed the Hustlers game.
Tommy Lavelle can be happy with his contribution winning 5 and losing only 4 of the 9 he played.
Paddy O'Callaghan signed in the summer and 4 wins from 8 games is a decent average.
John Brannigan and Stephen Lavelle have played 4 and won 2.
Martin McVeigh and Pat Byrne have gone right off their game. Captain Paul Hughes might need to take these lads to Specsavers.
Martin McVeigh has won just 2 and lost 8 which is just shocking.
Pat Byrne has won 1 game and lost 5 which equally as horrendous.
Aaron O'Callaghan has 1 win and 4 defeats while Barry McAllister has picked up 2 wins from 4 played.
Captain Hughes has played 1 and lost 1.
It's hard to see Carrickcruppen being as bad in the 2nd half of the league. The players they have are experienced and are good players. A worrying stat is that Carrickcruppen have picked up just 1 point when Jamie Lavelle has been beaten. Is he the glue that keeps them together?
6 Points McGuigan's A have 3 wins and 0 draws from this semi retired bunch of lads. "One year Only" is their logo as they are raising a few pounds for charity in this old boys club who are trying to avoid relegation. They might have made a few Thousand pounds for Charity but results have been harder to come by. The Monaghan Street side had to wait until their 4th league to game to record a win but it was only because Killeavy didn't show up. An inexperienced TJ's Tigers and Whitecross their only other victims.
Brian Flanagan could be the lifeboat on this sinking ship. He won his 1st 3 games. Then came Killeavy who didnt come before losing to Sheepbridge. 2 more wins followed by their bye and 2 defeats was softened by a final match win before the Christmas break. 6 wins and 3 defeats is a terrific return especially with little to play for only pride.
Terry McNally has a decent 5 wins and only 3 defeats from the 8 league games he's played which is a good return from the master tactician.
Paul McAreavey has won his last 3 games and an early league victory gives him a total of 4 wins and only 2 defeats.
Brendan Healy is captain this year but his results have been average at best. 2 wins and 5 defeats is relegation standard.
Luckily long time team mate Brian Campbell is fairing better with 4 wins and 5 defeats.
Following 5 league defeats and Dusty O'Hagan ended the 1st half on a high with his only 2 wins of the league so far.
Poor aul John Magee has suffered 7 defeats with just 1 win in an appalling 1st half of the season.
Mike McArdle's record is slightly better winning 2 of his 5.
Gerard McGuigan has tried 3 times to get his 1st win but he's stilling waiting.
Tommy O'Hanlon can better that with 5 attempts and 0 wins.
Joey Magill has featured very little and has 0 wins.
McGuigan's A have some very good and very experienced players in their ranks. The quality in the Premier Division is very high this year so these lads are going to have to step up a notch if they are to climb away from the relegation zone. They have the players to do it, they just need their 'One Year Only' squad to want it.
5 Points Sheepbridge have 2 wins and 1 draw to show for their 1st 10 games this season. Sheepbridge beat McGuigan's in week 5 to get their 1st win then a week later they tamed the Bears but points since then have been few and far between.
Seanie Markey may not be the captain but he is the leader on the baize. 5 wins and 5 defeats is a decent record in a tough Division. Sheepbridge lost to Killeavy in their opening game so the stats include that match.
Captain Gwyn Trainor won 3 of his 1st 4 league games but only 1 win from his last 5 has left confidence low.
Ciaran Morgan Senior won the 1st 5 when he started his season 3 games in. 2 defeats mean he finishes with a respectable 5 wins.
Ciaran Morgan junior has held his own winning 4 of 7 games.
Brendan Markey won 3 and lost 4 from his 7 games which he could improve on.
Things take a drastic dip with Johnny McEvoy winning just 1 frame and losing 8. That is astonishingly bad. Let's hope he's better at the 9 pin bowling than the pool.
Pat Kearns isn't much better winning 1 and losing 7.
It's no secret Sheepbridge are struggling for players. Let's hope the can see the season out and regroup for next season.
Killeavy folded after 5 games and 1 of them they didn't show up. They only managed to win 10 frames but still managed to beat Sheepbridge.
Tom Mageniss won 2 frames to finish their joint top scorer. He also lost 2.
Sean Og Duffy also won 2 and lost 2.
Stephen Murphy lost 3 before finally winning 1.
Same with Mark Shevlin.
Alan McManus won 1 of his 3 games.
Emmett Fearon won half of his 2 games.
Stephen Cunningham won 1 of 3.
My favourite of course is Paddy McCann. Played 4 and lost 4.
It's a shame to lose a team of Killeavy's long history with the Newry Pool league. Let's hope they get some new players and get going again next season.
