CWC A Tribute
Congratulations to CWC A on Winning the 2017/18 Premier Division League title.
With only 4 league games remaining CWC are an unassailable 10 points clear. With only 8 more points up for grabs CWC A galloped away with their 2nd league title in a row.
CWC A have amazingly only dropped 4 points en-route to their second successive title. The biggest glitch in their title campaign was defeat at the hands of Orchard Bar. In fact Orchard have taken 3 of the 4 dropped points off CWC A. The other was Hustlers who drew with them on the opening league fixture. It was fitting that they should claim the title in Orchard Bar and in emphatic style too.
CWC A landed in Orchard Bar in determined mood and took the 1st 3 frames.
At the start of play Hustlers were in 2nd place on 19pts while CWC were 9pts clear on 28. Hustlers could reach a maximum of 29pts so CWC just needed to win or hope Hustlers lost and they would be crowned champions.
Kieran McMahon is in the best form of the season just at the right time. He put CWC 1 up when he beat the also very much in form Mervyn Kernaghan.
Harvey Lavelle is another thoroughbred hitting the right notes at the business end of the season. He blasted in another brilliant Break Finish. It was Harvey Lavelle's 2nd break and Dish in 5 league games. This time it was the helpless Tony McGovern. That was 2-0.
Bernie Magee and Lee Irvine are two excellent tactical players but it was the former Corrinshego legend that made it 3-0.
Nigel Malcomson hadn't given up the ghost and he made the ultra attacking Paddy Clarke pay dearly when he hit the hurdle and messed up and it was 3-1.
Paddy Tavey started the title celebrations when he made it 4-1 against a talented PJ McDanial.
It was fitting that captain Marvel himself - 'Big Pat' Brady would win the frame that guaranteed the Premier Division Title would be coming home to rest for another year in CWC. Brendan Devlin came off the subs bench but he wasn't going to stop the unbelievable Brady making it 17 league wins from 17 league games for 5-1.
Seamus McGeoghegan joined in the fun to make it 6-1 and Stevie Teggart applied the gloss finish for 7-1. Noel Brown and Ritchie Crawford the beaten dockets for Orchard Bar.
CWC A have wrapped up the 1st of what they expect to be the quadruple.
So what does it take to win the league? Take a look at some CWC A player stats.
Pat Brady P17 W17 100%
Paddy Tavey P17 W14 82%
Harvey Lavelle P17 W13 76%
Kieran McMahon P17 W13 76%
Bernie Magee P17 W11 65%
Seamus McGeoghegan P16 W9 56%
Paddy Clarke P9 W6 67%
Stevie Teggart P8 W5 63%
Declan McConville P14 W6 43%
Some amazing statistics there. 4 players winning 3/4's of their league fixtures is outstanding and for one player - the Phenomenon that is Pat Brady to still be on 100% - 17 wins from 17 games is staggering.
This is the standard players and teams must reach if they are to challenge for the league title. Orchard proved they can be beaten but to win the league - consistency is key.
